Distance, Speed & Time (2)( Week 43 Evaluation)
1.   In a train station, there are two tracks (A and B) going to a city. The earliest trains on both tracks leave for the city at 6:50 AM. After that the trains on track A leave for the city every 9 minutes and the trains on track B leave for the city every 10 minutes. If Josh arrives at the station at 7:20 AM, how many minutes will he have to wait for the next train?
2.  Joe biked from his home to his high school at 6.2 miles per hour. When he returned home from school, using the same route, he biked at 3.8 miles per hour. If the total round trip took 25 minutes, what was the distance from his home to his school (in miles)?
3.  A ship can travel 20 mph in still water. It took the ship 30 hours to travel 300 miles against a current. What is the speed of the current? mph. How long will it take for the ship to travel the same distance with the current (downstream)? hours.
4.  The distance between place A and place B is 160 miles. Julia started to drive from place A to place B at 08:00 AM. The speed during the first half of the trip was 47 mph. The speed during the second half of the trip was 33 mph. How long (in hours) did it take Julia to get to place B from place A?
5.  George climbed a mountain and then immediately descended on the same route. It took a total of 133 minutes. He descended the mountain 15 feet per minute faster than when climbing up. If the time taken for the descending was 56 minutes, what was the total distance (in feet) for the descending?
6.  Two trains are driving toward each other. The faster one is driving at the speed of 23 meters per second. Its length is 160 meters. The slower one is driving at the speed of 17 meters per second. Its length is 240 meters. How many seconds will it take from the time they meet to the time they separate completely?
7.  Jay went a round trip from his home to an airport to pick up a friend. It took a total of 5.5 hours including waiting 1 hour in the airport. He was able to drive 10 km/h faster to the airport than back from the airport. If the time was taken to get airport was 2 hours, what was the distance (in km) from Jay's home to the airport?
8.  Nick can row 1200 meters against the current (upstream) in 12 minutes and row the same distance with the current (downstream) in 10 minutes. Find the speed of the current in meters per minute?
9.  Martha drives at 46 miles per hour from place A to place B. After driving for 4 hours, the rest of the trip is 36 miles less than half of the trip. If Martha drives at 28 miles per hour from then on, how many more hours will it take Martha to get to place B?
10.  It took Alice 100 minutes to get to place B from place A, and it took Edward 80 minutes to get to place B from place A. 6 minutes after Alice started out from place A, Edward also started out from place A. How long (in minutes) would it take for Edward to catch up with Alice?
